Rowan M. Dougherty is an intellectual property and international trade attorney with experience representing clients in Section 337 investigations at the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and in federal district court litigation, as well as matters regulated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.  She has represented foreign and U.S. businesses in patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, and trade dress matters involving a wide range of industries, including smart phones, printers, lighting products, paper shredders, medical devices, fragrance products, wine products, karaoke music, and festive ornaments.

As part of her litigation practice, Rowan guides clients through all stages of a dispute, from the due diligence required for an initial complaint or answer, through strategic fact and expert discovery, drafting dispositive motions, preparing pre- and post-hearing briefing, and drafting appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Her Customs work includes preparing classification protests and advising clients on U.S. Customs and Border Protection's enforcement of Section 337 exclusion orders.

Prior to joining the firm, Rowan practiced intellectual property litigation at a mid-sized law firm where she focused on copyright and patent litigation, as well as trademark prosecution and oppositions before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

While in law school, Rowan served as Editor of the inaugural International Trade Review of the Georgetown Journal of International Law, which provides a critical analysis of cases heard by the U.S. Court of International Trade each year.  Rowan was also selected as a Law Fellow for the Georgetown Legal Research and Writing Program.  Upon graduation, Rowan received a World Trade Organization (WTO) Certificate from the Institute of International Economic Law, evidencing special competence in WTO studies.

Rowan is a contributing author to the second and third editions of the American Bar Association’s book entitled "A Lawyer’s Guide to Section 337 Investigations Before the U.S. International Trade Commission."

Rowan volunteers for legal aid organizations that serve low-income artists and non-profit arts associations.
